Current MLB players from New England States

Giants’ Brian Wilson and his epic beard, as well as Ray’s Sam Fuld are from New Hampshire.

The Red Sox are in a rut. They lost three of the last four games, including two against A.L.-West-worst Seattle Mariners, whose winning percentage is .437. (To be fair, they are better than Kansas City .413, Baltimore .390, and Houston .314 (ouch)).

From today’s Boston Globe, Peter Abraham writes:

…A bigger issue is that rookie Charlie Furbush bamboozled the Sox for six innings, throwing a fastball across his body that they never could square up He dropped a curveball into lefties and a changeup to righties, too. The kid from Maine will remember this game for a long time.

Furbush is from South Portland, ME. This got me interested to see how many current players are from New England states: MA, RI, NH, ME, VT, and CT. Thanks to the Baseball-reference.com, this research was quite easy. and quite interesting. I love you, BR! I own a place-based baseball research site anyway. Perhaps new site is in brewing? NewEnglandBallPlayers.com here we come? (Just joking)

Following list is players that appeared in at least one MLB game in 2011, as of today, Aug. 15, 2011. (So both of Boston-born Manny Delcarmen and Sean Gallagher didn’t make the list… maybe they will be called up in September…)
